How Can You Help?

The Institute of Wildlife Sciences strongly believes in a proactive approach to resolving problems for and associated with wildlife.

We come from a rehabilitation background working primarily with birds of prey and reptiles. Our organization evolved to determine and prevent potential wildlife problems before they happen. Wildlife injuries continue to occur. Through controlled research projects we will assist and support wildlife biologists and wildlife rehabilitators in identifying and decreasing many unnecessary injuries.

This eaglet is happy to be back in its nest after being banded and fitted with a transmitter. You will notice a fish -- eagle sushi -- on the left side of the nest.

These projects assist us and other wildlife agencies in monitoring the health and movements of eagles and other wildlife.

Eaglets with an attitude, just the way we like them. The color bands are determined by the Bird Banding Laboratory, USGS, a federal agency.

Brian Mealey, Executive Director of the Institute of Wildlife Sciences (IWS), temporarily removing an eaglet from its nest in Port St. Lucie, Florida. This eaglet, named “Birdie” received national media coverage and her movement is being viewed from around the world. The Tesoro eaglet study is part of a partnership among the IWS, Audubon of Florida, and The Ginn Company.
